Information for Parents and Carers

Our smart start ‘Futures’ tutor programme provides career activities that are progressive and structured to support your child at every transition point and with their next steps. As a parent or carer, you can also support your child with their career journey.

What you can do?

  • Talk to your child about their interests
  • Ask them about their future aspirations
  • Encourage them to do their own wider research, particularly when making decisions about options and post-16 destinations
  • Explain what skills and qualities are and identify with their strengths and ways to develop
  • Ask them about their action plans following personal guidance meetings- can you help them to achieve their goals?
  • Log onto Unifrog as a parent and encourage them to use it regularly to update their skills audits and find out about future careers.
  • Be mindful of changes in the Labour Market (LMI) and trends that may affect their future aspirations
  • Find out more about post 16 options – do you know what T levels are? Consider Higher Apprenticeships as alternative to university.
  • Know what ‘Redbrick’ Universities are and become familiar with UCAS points and what they mean.
